Huddersfield has confirmed head coach Nathan Brown will leave the Super League club at the end of the season and return to Australia for family reasons.
Brown had hinted in recent weeks that he was ready to end his stay in England and he opted to clear up the situation after the Giants were thrashed 60-4 by Warrington in the Challenge Cup at the weekend.
Brown, who was contracted to the end of the 2011 season but had been linked with moves to Cronulla and South Sydney, said: “It’s purely a family decision that I have had to make to go home at the end of this year.
“Despite what’s been written by some, I don’t have a job to go to nor have I even spoken to anyone back home about employment – this decision is not about my professional life, it’s about my family’s life.
“To say I have enjoyed my time here – and will continue to do so – is an understatement.
“It’s been great for us but I just have to make this decision now for the benefit of everyone as the continued and relentless media speculation has been good for no one.
“I will continue to give my absolute best to the club in every aspect of the job until the year end and assist them in going forward in the future in any way I can.
“Wherever I end up, I will always look for the Giants results in the UK and be rooting for them.”
Brown, who was the youngest coach in the NRL when he took over at St George Illawarra in 2003, enjoyed instant success after being chosen to succeed Jon Sharp at Huddersfield.
He guided the Giants to a best-ever third-place finish in the League at the first attempt and last August took them to their first Wembley appearance for 47 years.
